Railroad Wharf, Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. The Tall Ship Aurora prepares to  set sail the following day on a long and dangerous voyage to Buenos Aires, Argentina.  As the Aurora was being loaded with its cargo of lumber, the crew savors the last day before the ship departs the next morning.

The winds and fog and tides and storms and cross currents of the Bay of Fundy are notorious for claiming many a fine sailing vesssel down to the sea.

The Tall Ship Aroura sailed the next day; rounding the westernmost point in Nova Scotia and the Bay of Funday. In fog and rough seas, the navigator mistook the Western Point Lighthouse on Brier Island for a vessel light; and ran the ship aground.

The crew were unable to wear off; and abandoned the ship on life boats. All hands survived.
